History
RIMC was started on 13
March 1922 by the British government (Royal Highness, King Edward VIII) to
train young boys for the Royal Military Academy.
After India’s
Independence, it continued to prepare students for the National Defence Academy
(NDA).
The college was founded by the Prince of Wales. At that time, its name was Royal Indian Military College. Later, its name changed to Rashtriya Indian Military College.

Objectives
The main goal of RIMC
is to prepare young boys for entry into the National Defence Academy and later

The RIMC functions on a Semester system. A calendar year is divided into 2 semesters with vacations in between. The college has a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:12, and the college is divided into four sections(Houses) as PRATAP, RANJIT, SHIVAJI and CHANDRAGUPTA.

To get admission in
RIMC, students must meet these basic criteria:
1. Gender: earlier, only Boys could apply,
but now girls can also apply.
2. Age: Students’ age must be between 11 ½
to 13 years old at the time of admission.
3. Education: Students should be studying
in class 7th or have passed class 7th from a recognised school.
4. Nationality: The student must be a citizen of India.
Admission Process
1. Written Exam: Students have to appear
in a written test. This test includes English, Maths, and general knowledge
papers.
2. Interview: Those who passed the written
exam are called for an interview conducted by a selection Board. It tests
confidence, personality and communication skills.
3. Medical Test: Selected students go through a medical examination at a military hospital to check their physical fitness.
The final selection is based on all three stages.

The RIMC exam has
three main subjects, English, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
English: it has
Grammar, Comprehension, essay, writing and vocabulary.
Maths: Covers topics
from arithmetic, geometry, fractions, and decimals.
GK: It includes
questions from science, history, geography, current affairs and basic general
awareness.
